A Message From Dean Gorman
Dear Rice Parents and Families,
I hope your Owl’s spring semester is off to a great start! The Office of the Dean of Undergraduates is focused on providing a holistic education for your student, bringing together all aspects of the undergraduate student experience — not only excellent academics, but also the leadership and career services, mental and physical wellness resources, and extracurricular and social activities that represent the broader “Rice experience.”
A Rice education goes far beyond the classroom, and now, thanks to the Moody Foundation’s historic $100 million gift to Rice, every student will have substantially more access to a transformative student experience. This extraordinary gift is funding both a dynamic new student center, which is currently in its design phase, as well as a high level of endowment support for a broad range of extracurricular experiences and resources.
It is impossible to overstate the significance of this gift. In addition to providing vital space for the growth of our student body, it supports a diverse array of programs and initiatives focused on amplifying the Rice experience — nicknamed the Moody Experience or Moody X for short. These Moody experiences enhance opportunities for students to engage in medical research in collaboration with the Texas Medical Center, internships with community organizations and study abroad experiences. It also expands health and wellness resources, athletic excellence, engagement with the arts, and a wide range of opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. I encourage you to learn more about the many facets of the Moody Experience at moodyexperience.rice.edu.
Of course, I am most excited about what this means for your students, who will have more opportunities than ever to learn and grow, thanks to the Moody Foundation’s extraordinary gift. I look forward to seeing what our talented students will accomplish with such exceptional support.
Sending my best wishes,
Bridget Gorman, Dean of Undergraduates
