As the Associate Dean of Undergraduates, Dr. Crear provides leadership in the development of holistic, student-centered programs designed to facilitate undergraduate students’ orientation, transition, and retention at Rice. Since arriving at Rice in 2008, she has also served as the Director of Student Success Initiatives, Director of First Year Programs and is currently a faculty member in Rice’s Teacher Certification program.

Advising Philosophy: “How you enter Rice is not how you should leave Rice. Use these 4 (or more years) to uncover who you are and what you believe.” Dr. Crear believes that the college experience should be highlighted by a student’s personal growth and development. Having the opportunity to advise, mentor, and teach students throughout this exploratory process is one of the best parts of her job.
