Outstanding DOU Partner of the Year

History
The Outstanding DOU Partner of the Year Award was established in 2023 and recognizes a faculty or staff member from outside the division that has been an integral part of supporting the mission and purpose of the Division of the Dean of Undergraduates through support of a unit, office, event, or project within the division. The intent of this award is to express appreciation for collaborative partners within the university that allow the DOU to fulfill our mission and purpose at a level of excellence.

Selection
To be eligible for the award, the faculty or staff member must be in a regular, benefits-eligible position, at Rice University, be in good standing, and meet the following criteria:

  • has made significant impact on a unit or the Division of the Dean of Undergraduates as a whole;
  • has served as a critical partner and support for a unit or office within the division; and
  • has provided integral support, perspective, time, and energy to a critical component of a unit, office, event, or project within the division

Division nominations are solicited annually. Nominators will be asked to submit a maximum two-page letter describing the candidate’s qualifications and contributions. If a group has a mutual nomination, collaboration is encouraged. Please note that individuals cannot receive the same award in concurrent years.

The Selection Committee seeks to gain an understanding of who the nominee is through the nomination letter. Successful submissions will be chosen from those nominations that articulate how the nominee meets and exceeds the criteria through examples. Nominations timelines are announced in the Spring of every academic year with deadlines typically in mid-late March.

Award
A commemorative award will be presented at a division event.
